Metalizing
Thermal Spray coating, also known as Metalizing or metal spraying, deposits molten material on a work piece to form a protective coating. Four types of thermal spray coating processes commonly used are flame, electric arc, detonation and plasma spraying.
Metalizing Applications include:
- Corrosion protection for all types of steel structures and equipment
- Extending tube wall life of coal fired utility and chemical recovery boilers
- Condenser tubesheets and waterbox corrosion protection
- Anti skid coatings
- Erosion corrosion protection of carbon steel in wet steam environments
Common metal spray coating materials include:
- Aluminum
- Bronze Alloys
- Carbon Steel
- Chrome Steel
- Hastalloy
- Monel
- Nickel
- Nickel Chrome
- Stainless
- Zinc

Advantages of Sprayed Metal Coatings
- Thermal sprayed coatings can be applied at temperature ranges from 0 to 100 F
- Sprayed metal is consistent in quality and purity and requires no curing time
- The adhesion of thermal sprayed coatings to grit blasted steel is of a high order and enables the structure to withstand rough usage, without sacrificing the protection
- The sacrificial action, particularly of Zinc, prevents steel from corroding at the edges and discontinuities may occur if the coatings are mechanically applied
- Components or structures of any size may be metal sprayed and the coating thickness can be varied on different areas of the same structure, depending on the degree of protection required - there is no size limitation to the work piece as may be imposed in the hot dip galvanizing process
- Thermal sprayed metal coatings are slightly porous which makes them an excellent base for a sealer or paint topcoat - this further extends the over all life of the protective coating system and provides the desired aesthetics while maintaining the plant's color coding scheme
- Thermal sprayed metal coatings provide an extended service life when compared to polymer-based paint systems - sprayed metal systems have been in continuous service for over 40 years without degredation or required maintenance
